About Lausanne, Switzerland
Lausanne is a city on Lake Léman (also called Lake Geneva), the largest town in the French-speaking canton of Vaud. It is a hilly city about halfway between the Jura Mountains and the Alps and facing the French town of Évian-les-Bains across the lake. Lausanne is located 62 kilometres (38.5 miles) northeast of Geneva, the nearest major city. It’s home to the International Olympic Committee headquarters, as well as the Olympic Museum and lakeshore Olympic Park. The hilly old city has medieval, shop-lined streets and a 12th-century Gothic cathedral with an ornate facade. In the center, the 19th-century Palais de Rumine houses the Geological Exhibitions, established in its current form by Aymon Baud, honorary director.
