Diffusion barriers in the plant apoplast serve as crucial checkpoints for the passage of water and nutrients. They play an essential role in protecting plants from both biotic and abiotic stressors in their environment, thereby supporting plant growth and development. Traditionally, cutin, suberin, waxes, and lignin have been at the center of the discussion; however, many other cell wall modifications with potentially specialized functions are also involved. A better understanding of their biosynthesis and functions is crucial for sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture, especially in light of a rapidly changing climate.
The primary objective of the PADiBa (Plant Apoplastic Diffusion Barriers) symposium is to facilitate the exchange of groundbreaking ideas and advancements among scientists committed to investigating the diverse composition and roles of apoplastic diffusion barriers in plant physiology and development.
This year, we cordially invite you to Lausanne, Switzerland, for the 7th PADiBa Symposium, returning to the University of Lausanne, where the PADiBa was founded in 2013. Lausanne is a historic town on Lake Leman, featuring a beautiful 12th-13th century cathedral on a hilltop. We look forward to welcoming you to a diverse scientific program spanning four days, comprising invited and selected talks as well as poster sessions addressing new developments in many aspects of barrier formation.
As a social event, participants will enjoy a boat cruise to the 12th-century Chillon Castle, one of Switzerland’s most visited historic buildings, followed by a visit of the castle and a gala dinner.
We look forward to welcoming you.
