This region is known to be that of highest seismic activity in Switzerland, with recurrent damaging events. The latest of the major events occurred in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seismo.ethz.ch\/en\/knowledge\/earthquake-country-switzerland\/historical-earthquakes\/sierre-1946\/\">1946 in Sierre<\/a>, and had a magnitude of 5.8.
