{"id":1009,"date":"2019-05-31T08:45:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T06:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/orog3ny\/?p=1009"},"modified":"2019-05-31T08:54:36","modified_gmt":"2019-05-31T06:54:36","slug":"earthquake-beneath-the-dent-doche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/orog3ny\/2019\/05\/earthquake-beneath-the-dent-doche\/","title":{"rendered":"Earthquake beneath the Dent d&#8217;Oche"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On May 28th a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seismo.ethz.ch\/en\/home\/\">M4.2 earthquake<\/a> occurred beneath the Dent d&#8217;Oche, a well known-peak on the French side of Lake Geneva, close to the Swiss border. The event was felt around Lake Geneva, as well as in the Valais where our station clearly recorded the waveforms (see below).<\/p>\n<p>This earthquake is of interest for several reasons. In the year 563, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/ngeo1618\">tsunami on Lake Geneva<\/a> was generated from a rock fall in the same area. In <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10950-017-9715-8\">1584, a M5.9 earthquake<\/a> occured in the same region (Aigle +\/-50 km).
