{"id":10,"date":"2016-03-15T12:36:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T11:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/orog3ny\/?page_id=10"},"modified":"2026-05-01T11:46:56","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T09:46:56","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/orog3ny\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>OROG3NY<\/strong> was intially a research project funded from 2015 to 2021 (<a href=\"https:\/\/data.snf.ch\/grants\/grant\/157627\">phase I<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/data.snf.ch\/grants\/grant\/187199\">phase II<\/a>), focusing on a number of key questions of mountain building. On one hand: on the 3D structures that define a mountain belt, their variations in depth as well as along the arc, and the role of the lower crust. On the other hand: on the processes that shape an orogen, such as earthquakes and metamorphic evolution. The project targeted questions in the Himalaya and the European Alps with geophysical tools, such as seismology, gravimetry and numerical modelling, and include elements of petrology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With time, the funded project ended yet the research themes transitioned into the eponymous research group hosted at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/iste\/home.html\">ISTE<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/\">UNIL<\/a>. A main interests evolved to include educational seismology, first in Nepal and then in Switzerland, and very active involvement in the scientific drilling procject <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icdp-online.org\/projects\/by-continent\/europe\/dive-italy\/\">DIVE<\/a> in frame of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icdp-online.org\/\">ICDP<\/a>.
