{"id":751,"date":"2017-12-21T08:01:59","date_gmt":"2017-12-21T07:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/musemagazine\/?p=751"},"modified":"2018-10-11T19:46:02","modified_gmt":"2018-10-11T17:46:02","slug":"poems-by-blanche-darbord","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/musemagazine\/2017\/12\/poems-by-blanche-darbord\/","title":{"rendered":"Poems by Blanche Darbord"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0099cc;font-size: small\"><strong>Images<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a9 Blanche Darbord<\/span><\/p>\n<p><u>Glass ship of Goodbyes<\/u><\/p>\n<p>I took the sadness from my heart;<br \/>\nI took a bottle by its neck.<br \/>\nA storm was raging in the clouds;<br \/>\nA cloud came carrying all my hurt.<\/p>\n<p>I took a locket from my chest;<br \/>\nI took a bottle by its neck.<br \/>\nThe waves still swam beneath my feet,<br \/>\nIts wails slicing my beating breast.<\/p>\n<p>I took a letter soft with dew;<br \/>\nI slit the bottle by its neck.<br \/>\nAnd in the bottle sadly placed,<br \/>\nMy words of lasting love to you.<\/p>\n<p>A storm was raging in the clouds;<br \/>\nA cloud came down upon the sea.<br \/>\nAnd in the mourning waters went,<br \/>\nMy letter, floating in your shrouds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_754\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-754\" style=\"width: 1607px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-754 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/musemagazine\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_2756.jpg\" alt=\"dark sunset\" width=\"1607\" height=\"1200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-754\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Delusional Philosopher<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><u>The Delusional Philosopher<\/u><\/p>\n<p>A wise man reads,<br \/>\nHis white beard long<br \/>\nBeneath his chin.<\/p>\n<p>He reads of sun and moon,<br \/>\nOf oceans dried too soon.<br \/>\nHe reads of lost ships<br \/>\nand long-forgotten crypts.<\/p>\n<p>A young, ignorant boy,<br \/>\nWho cannot read<br \/>\nAnd never touched a book:<br \/>\nHe runs under the sun,<br \/>\nSleeps under the moon,<br \/>\nAnd sails on sparkling seas.<br \/>\nThe old man,<br \/>\nWise as he was,<br \/>\nWrote about the world.<\/p>\n<p>His wise words are<br \/>\n\u201cphilosophical\u201d, \u201ctimeless\u201d<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; We say<\/p>\n<p>Yes, they are timeless,<br \/>\nTruthful by fantasies,<br \/>\nIgnorant of life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_755\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-755\" style=\"width: 798px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-755 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/musemagazine\/files\/2017\/12\/DSC_0588.jpg\" alt=\"stone on beach\" width=\"798\" height=\"1200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-755\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Promise of Stones<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><u>The Promise of Stones<\/u><\/p>\n<p>In the New Land waited<br \/>\nA man<br \/>\nSitting before an ageing<br \/>\nOcean wide.<br \/>\n\u201cWait for me,\u201d she had said.<br \/>\n\u201cI shall come back,\u201d<br \/>\nShe had promised.<\/p>\n<p>But the ocean turned to mist<br \/>\nAnd the man\u2019s eyes turned to foam,<br \/>\nAnd he wailed across the sea,<br \/>\nA last solitary plea.<\/p>\n<p>The ocean that would carry<br \/>\nHis love was, oh, so empty.<br \/>\nLo! She would not come<br \/>\nIf he had but dirt to pawn!<\/p>\n<p>So, above the cliffs,<br \/>\nFor her he chose,<br \/>\nA garden of whens<br \/>\nA forest of ifs.<\/p>\n<p>And on that land across the sea,<br \/>\nRich with uncertain certainty,<br \/>\nHe carved treasures into the stone;<br \/>\nHe carved his future in a home.<\/p>\n<p>But lo! \u2018Twas not a house he built,<br \/>\n\u2018Twas a castle that proudly stood,<br \/>\nLofty towers eyeing the waves,<br \/>\nStrong stones with bliss to save.<\/p>\n<p>And, across the carved ramparts,<br \/>\nHistory wore its mighty crown,<br \/>\nMysterious monoliths<br \/>\nMajestic obelisks<br \/>\nStood in harmony<br \/>\nIn this kingdom by the sea,<br \/>\nWaiting. Waiting for its queen.<\/p>\n<p>For hours, days, and years,<br \/>\nHe worked and toiled,<br \/>\nWorked with hands alone<br \/>\nAnd alone built a castle tall.<\/p>\n<p>How\u2026 remains a mystery,<br \/>\nIts knowledge buried in the sea.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, today there remains,<br \/>\nThis kingdom by the sea.<br \/>\n\u2018Tis named Coral Castle<br \/>\nAnd stands, waiting still.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Images:\u00a0\u00a9 Blanche Darbord Glass ship of Goodbyes I took the sadness from my heart; I took a bottle by its neck.
