Sir Gawain and the Green Dragon<\/strong><\/p>\n

Great deeds were done during Arthur’s reign,<\/p>\n

Many battles were fought and great Knights slain,<\/p>\n

Many demons downed and Vikings vanquished,<\/p>\n

Many fabled foes of their heads relinquished.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

None battled braver than gallant Gawain,<\/p>\n

Who always returned fresh from a war,<\/p>\n

Never he bled, nor his armour stained,<\/p>\n

No wiser a warrior I ever saw.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On the greenest day in years,<\/p>\n

A peasant man came pleading to Sirs,<\/p>\n

He told a tale of a vicious snake,<\/p>\n

Arthur discarded his fears as fake,<\/p>\n

But great Gawain took up his spurs.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Immediately he rode at full speed,<\/p>\n

Sought out the farmer’s golden field,<\/p>\n

But mounted on his splendid steed,<\/p>\n

The only gold in sight was his shield.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He asked the man the meaning of this,<\/p>\n

Where are his famous fields and flocks?<\/p>\n

They had been burnt by lizard’s kiss,<\/p>\n

That scaled beast born out of the rocks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our hero hastened towards the mountain,<\/p>\n

Determined to slay his fiendish foe,<\/p>\n

And at the summit he saw him waiting,<\/p>\n

Surrounded by the melting snow.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What began as mere a drop,<\/p>\n

Came over Gawain a mighty wave,<\/p>\n

A crushing cascade that never stopped,<\/p>\n

A trick played by the nasty knave.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This liquid onslaught did not dampen his heart,<\/p>\n

He was overcome by a different blast,<\/p>\n

Nothing could block this flaming dart,<\/p>\n

Gawain was swift but the flare too fast.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Having for this final time,<\/p>\n

Put himself in the line of fire,<\/p>\n

He’s stolen from us in his prime,<\/p>\n

Burning in Nature’s funeral pyre.<\/p>\n
