Momentous<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Is this a mountain that I see before me?<\/p>\n

So vast and powerful its face.<\/p>\n

It rises from the earth below me,<\/p>\n

Cemented in history\u2019s trace.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In summer when the weather\u2019s fair,<\/p>\n

It flourishes with life and leaf.<\/p>\n

In winter when its front is bare,<\/p>\n

It stands resistant to insidious grief.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sunshine and blue sky are best<\/p>\n

For mirthful and sweet disposition,<\/p>\n

But earthquake is the final test<\/p>\n

Of mountains\u2019 sturdy disposition.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In shrieking gales and howling rain,<\/p>\n

When lightning splinters our soft core,<\/p>\n

The mountains stand to entertain<\/p>\n

This bleating that they\u2019ve heard before.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The solid stump is evidence<\/p>\n

Of many centuries of pain endured.<\/p>\n

Yet sharp and creviced stony peaks<\/p>\n

Attest to readiness for more.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But rains will end and sunshine come<\/p>\n

And hardened face will turn from stone.<\/p>\n

And tender greens will whisper out,<\/p>\n

Breathing new life to hardened bone.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

While frozen evils strike the land,<\/p>\n

And petrify each living thing,<\/p>\n

The inner stump will surely stand,<\/p>\n

Awaiting warmth for flowering.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s no small wonder, then, to turn<\/p>\n

To these great palaces of rock;<\/p>\n

Through times of ravages and mourn,<\/p>\n

And other feats of absent luck,<\/p>\n

They\u2019ll shed like feathers their adorn,<\/p>\n
