{"id":3370,"date":"2022-12-19T08:23:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T07:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/musemagazine\/?page_id=3370"},"modified":"2023-12-11T14:52:51","modified_gmt":"2023-12-11T13:52:51","slug":"winter-2022-online-edition","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/musemagazine\/winter-2022-online-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter 2022 Web Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dear MUSE\u2019s&nbsp;SUPER FANS,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope that you are all pulling through this&nbsp;stressful&nbsp;period&nbsp;of&nbsp;the semester!&nbsp;Remember&nbsp;that you are all&nbsp;<strong>tough cookies<\/strong>, and we believe in you and your chocolate chip perseverance!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also&nbsp;<em>very<\/em>&nbsp;excited to announce that this&nbsp;Winter\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>MUSE<\/strong>&nbsp;edition of 2022&nbsp;<strong>IS OUT<\/strong>!!! :D&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have&nbsp;received and published&nbsp;beautiful&nbsp;<strong>poems<\/strong>, thrilling&nbsp;<strong>stories<\/strong>, heartfelt pieces, hilarious&nbsp;<strong>anecdotes<\/strong>,&nbsp;<em>do I need to say more<\/em>?! Is there any better way you could end the semester&nbsp;than&nbsp;cozily sitting in your favorite spot, with a warm cup of tea (or hot chocolate, whatever floats your boat) and&nbsp;reading&nbsp;your fellow students\u2019&nbsp;enchanting&nbsp;and&nbsp;wonderfully written pieces???&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also pleased to say that this semester\u2019s MUSE team has conducted an&nbsp;<strong>interview<\/strong>&nbsp;with our&nbsp;<em>lovely<\/em>&nbsp;<strong>department secretary<\/strong>&nbsp;(aka one of our English department\u2019s Wonder Women)&nbsp;<strong>Patricia Mascia<\/strong>! We are sure you are going to discover as many aspects of her multitasking job and her endearing personality as we did!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, this issue from your&nbsp;<em>favorite<\/em>&nbsp;magazine also features&nbsp;<em>hilarious<\/em>&nbsp;replies to our traditional&nbsp;<strong>Ask-the-Students<\/strong>&nbsp;confessional poll about your&nbsp;<em>craziest excuses<\/em>&nbsp;for missing class! We would like to thank every student who shared with us their stories, they most certainly entertained us! Seriously, guys, if you need an&nbsp;<strong>uplifting break<\/strong>&nbsp;from studying, this quick read will definitely do the trick!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, the moment you have&nbsp;<em>all&nbsp;<\/em>been waiting for&#8230; We are&nbsp;<em>eager<\/em>&nbsp;to announce the&nbsp;<strong>three winning stories<\/strong>&nbsp;of our Short Story Competition on the theme of \u201cTomorrow\u201d. . . (drumroll please) . . . : In&nbsp;<strong>first place<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Fanny Cheseaux\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;innovative tale&nbsp;<strong>\u201cThe Flight of the Seagull\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;stole the show! In&nbsp;<strong>second place<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>William Flores\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;gripping&nbsp;<strong>\u201cVenus Flytrap\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;had us&nbsp;all&nbsp;holding our breath until the very end! And finally,&nbsp;<strong>Salom\u00e9 Emilie Streiff\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;emotionally compelling and most touching piece&nbsp;<strong>\u201cA Cheap Eulogy about Stars\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;earned&nbsp;the&nbsp;<strong>third place<\/strong>!&nbsp;&nbsp;Let\u2019s&nbsp;give them and the remaining contestants a huge round of applause for their creativity, hard work, and courage! And we would like to thank our&nbsp;<strong>guest judges<\/strong>&nbsp;Dr.&nbsp;Val\u00e9rie&nbsp;Cossy, Dr. Sangam MacDuff, and BooksBooksBooks\u2019* one and only, Matthew Wake, for their input! Lastly, we would like to also thank Matthew for&nbsp;<strong>sponsoring<\/strong>&nbsp;once again a MUSE&nbsp;competition&nbsp;and, therefore, helping us fuel young minds\u2019 creativity and literary production.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our whole MUSE team is&nbsp;<strong>extremely grateful<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>for every author&#8217;s<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>contribution<\/strong>, even if it was just a short response to the poll, rest assured that we truly appreciate it. Sharing a piece of one\u2019s writing for the world to read is like giving away a fragment of one\u2019s self. And we are all deeply touched by your trust in us to transmit your soulful fragments.
