La faible ampleur de la fa\u00e7ade de l\u2019h\u00f4tel de ville ne saurait rel\u00e9guer les qualit\u00e9s d\u2019un \u00e9difice qui s\u2019inspire des mod\u00e8les les plus prestigieux de l\u2019architecture du XVIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle et soutient ais\u00e9ment la comparaison avec les b\u00e2timents publics des autres villes vaudoises de l\u2019Ancien R\u00e9gime.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019histoire de son architecture n\u2019avait jamais fait jusqu\u2019ici l\u2019objet d\u2019une \u00e9tude compl\u00e8te. C\u2019est ce que propose le pr\u00e9sent article, qui est articul\u00e9 en deux parties. La premi\u00e8re est un examen critique et une interpr\u00e9tation des dessins de fa\u00e7ades conserv\u00e9s au Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orbe.
