The goal of the project is to disentangle fitness effects over short and evolutionary time-scales between five species of bacteria that are used for biodegradation. The candidate will be employed part-time (50% to 60%) for a period of 2 to 3 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> This position has been filled.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The candidate should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have obtained a Master&#8217;s degree in biology (or equivalent)<\/li>\n<li>possess skills in basic microbiology (required), molecular biology and microscopy<\/li>\n<li>have an interest in researching microbial ecosystems<\/li>\n<li>have good English language skills (written and oral)<\/li>\n<li>be motivated, autonomous and organized<\/li>\n<li>be open to developing and learning new skills and techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The candidate&#8217;s main responsibilities will be to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>design and conduct basic microbiology experiments (bacterial cultures, quantification, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>genetic modification of bacteria<\/li>\n<li>design, conduct and follow long-term (months) evolutionary experiments<\/li>\n<li>design and conduct experiments using microfluidic devices attached to a microscope<\/li>\n<li>analyze data<\/li>\n<li>train and supervise interns<\/li>\n<li>manage laboratory and biological material<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Employment will begin in July 2015 (flexible).<\/p>\n<p>If interested, please send me (sara.mitri[at]unil.ch):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a motivation letter<\/li>\n<li>up-to-date CV<\/li>\n<li>copy of graduation certificate<\/li>\n<li>contact information for 2 references<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application deadline: <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">March 31st , 2015<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seeking to promote an equitable representation of men and women among its staff, the University encourages applications from women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am looking to hire a research associate to work on the evolution of social interactions between bacterial species.
