{"id":6,"date":"2017-10-11T10:32:19","date_gmt":"2017-10-11T08:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/mial\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2026-02-06T14:41:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T13:41:00","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/mial\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Medical Image Analysis Laboratory (MIAL) <span lang=\"EN-US\">founded in 2011 is led by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/mial\/team\/meritxell-bach-cuadra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Prof. <\/span>Meritxell Bach Cuadra<\/a>, Associate Professor <span lang=\"EN-US\">at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unil.ch\/\">University of Lausanne<\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\"> (<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">UNIL) and is hosted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/chuv-\u00a6-service-de-radiodiagnostic-et-radiologie-interventionnelle\/mycompany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radiology Department<\/a> of \u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chuv.ch\/\">Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois<\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">, two of the founding institutions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cibm.ch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CIBM Center for Biomedical Imaging<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We believe that\u00a0an appropriate use of medical imaging requires a multidisciplinary approach.\u00a0Thus, we develop advanced methods for medical image processing in close collaborations with medical doctors and industrial partners. Founded in 2004 with the generous support from the Fondation Leenaards and Fondation Louis-Jeantet, the Center for Biomedical Imaging (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cibm.ch\">CIBM<\/a>) is the result of a major research and teaching initiative of the partners in the Science-Vie-Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 (SVS) project between the Ecole Polytechnique F\u00e9d\u00e9rale de Lausanne (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epfl.ch\">EPFL<\/a>), the Universit\u00e9 de Lausanne (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\">UNIL<\/a>), Universit\u00e9 de Gen\u00e8ve (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unige.ch\">UNIGE<\/a>), the H\u00f4pitaux Universitaires de Gen\u00e8ve (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hug-ge.ch\">HUG<\/a>) and the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chuv.ch\">CHUV<\/a>).<\/p>\n<div class=\"v14boxmultitext\">\n<p><strong>Radiology Department<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>CHUV<\/strong> &#8211;
