In four experiments, students explore how <strong>water chemistry<\/strong> changes as water travels from the atmosphere to the hydrophere and to the lithosphere (<a href=\"https:\/\/news.unil.ch\/display\/1541076017884\">https:\/\/news.unil.ch\/display\/1541076017884<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><em>November 2, 2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. No\u00e9mie Janot<\/strong> visits the LGE!&nbsp;&nbsp; Noemi is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Environnements continentaux at the University de Lorraine. She gave a great seminar on organo-mineral interactions in the critical zone.<\/p>\n<p><em>October 20, 2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our paper on <strong>Pb-Mn(III) but not Zn-Mn(III) exchange in biogenic manganese oxides<\/strong> was just accepted to <em>Chemical Geology<\/em>! Sci.: Nano, 2018, 5, DOI: 10.1039\/C8EN001.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>August 28 &#8211; 29, 2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our two-day meeting on <em><strong>Carbon cycling and redox processes<\/strong> in soils and sediments<\/em> brought together current and future collaborators using nanoSIMS, (cryo)-electron microscopy, synchrotron methods, electrochemistry and metabolomics to follow redox processes in soil systems.<\/p>\n<p><em>August 20, 2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Marco Keiluweit<\/strong> visits the LGE!&nbsp; Marco, professor of Soil and Microbial Biogeochemistry at UMass Amherst, joins the group for two weeks supported by a grant from the Herbette Foundation.&nbsp; Marco will give two talks while here: <em>&#8220;Mapping Carbon Flow through Soils:&nbsp; Ecosystem and Global Impacts&#8221;<\/em> and <em>&#8220;Spatial variations in microbial processes controlling carbon oxidation rates in soils&#8221;<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p><em>August 19, 2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Conferences !! Jackie goes to Holderness, New Hampshire to attend the <strong>Gordon <\/strong>Conference on <strong>Environmental Sciences: Water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>June 18, 2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Katayoon<\/strong>, co-advised by JP and Torsten Vennemann defends her <strong>Master&#8217;s thesis<\/strong> &#8220;<span id=\"gXAPf\" class=\"z-html\">Assessing the water quality of an agricultural watershed using geochemical &amp; isotopic analyses&#8221;.&nbsp; Interesting spatial analysis of nitrate concentrations and sources in the aquifer below Montricher (VD), which supplies the drinking water for Morges (VD).
