For all other courses and events you attended and want to validate, please send the (link to the) program, a participation proof and a proof that you had an oral or poster presentation (if applicable) to the LNDS coordinator. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">1) Details on ECTS study credit obligations during your thesis<br>2) How to validate individual seminars from conferences\/symposia <br>3) How to validate e-learning courses <br>4) How to validate external courses and external training stays <\/mark><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\" style=\"text-decoration:underline\">1) Details on ECTS study credit obligations during your thesis <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before completing a doctoral degree, students enrolled in the LN Doctoral School must obtain at least 18 ECTS credits, respecting the following points of the official LNDS study plan (&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/lemanicneuroscience\/files\/2022\/01\/PlanEtudes-du-Doctorat-en-Neurosciences-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Plan d&#8217;\u00e9tudes du Doctorat en neurosciences<\/a>&#8220;):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Min. 6 ECTS from <strong>Neuroscience doctoral courses<\/strong> that are supervised and include an assessment for credit validation, e.g. those offered by the LNDS or the EPFL. The <strong>validation of external PhD courses is possible; for questions please send the link and program to the LNDS coordinator.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Min. 2\/ max. 4 ECTS for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/lemanicneuroscience\/neuroleman-seminars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seminars<\/a><\/strong> or<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/lemanicneuroscience\/journal-clubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">journal clubs<\/a><\/strong> in neuroscience* (12 seminars = 1 credit), validated by sending the seminars sheet (available at the bottom of this page)&nbsp;to the LNDS coordinator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>*Max. 1 ECTS for presenting an abstract at a <strong>major international neuroscience conference<\/strong> (i.e. credits for presentations at SFN, FENS, HBM, CNS are surely granted; for potential credits for presentations at other major international conferences please contact the LNDS coordinator before the event takes place).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Max. 3 ECTS for <strong>workshops<\/strong> and <strong>summer or winter courses<\/strong>, validated by the school committee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Max. 2 ECTS for <strong>complementary skills<\/strong>, such as public science communication (e.g. during Brain Week events), courses on scientific writing and presentation skills, career events (Life Science Career days etc).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Max. 4 ECTS from <strong>introductory MSc courses in neuroscience, <\/strong>serving to complete your neuroscience background and obtain knowledge you have not obtained during your previous university studies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend that students obtain at least 9 credits during the first 3 semesters of the thesis work  and\/or before their intermediate (midterm) evaluation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I<strong>f you travel for LNDS, EPFL or CUSO courses between Geneva and Lausanne<\/strong>, <em>you can ask for <\/em>the reimbursement of your train ticket. Please see <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/lemanicneuroscience\/reimbursement-procedures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HERE<\/a> for the how to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One ECTS should correspond to 25-30 academic hours (45 min) of work for the student. In general, half of this work comes from attending lectures and the other half from the student&#8217;s personal work (review of literature + studying + final exam or essay). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To receive full credit for a course, students must fulfill the specific requirements announced by the instructor(s) at the beginning of the semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Relevant MSc courses in Neuroscience are available in Geneva and Lausanne, and represent a good opportunity for PhD students to improve their background knowledge on particular subjects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please use the forms below for <strong>validating seminars or journal club<\/strong>s (ONE signature per sheet by your thesis director is sufficient for valdition; no need to ask the seminar organizer each time &#8230;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/lemanicneuroscience\/files\/2022\/01\/SeminarSheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SeminarSheet.pdf<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/lemanicneuroscience\/files\/2022\/01\/JournalClubSheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JournalClubSheet.pdf<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-decoration:underline\">2) How to validate individual seminars from conferences\/symposia<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>When you attend a conference other than the major international ones mentioned above and marked with * (e.g. local conferences and symposia), you cannot validate 1 credit per se, but can include some talks of such events as entries on your &#8220;seminar sheet&#8221; (12 seminar entries = 1 credit):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 seminar for a half-day conference<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 seminars for a one-day conference<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 seminars for a conference longer than one day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to validate seminar participation:<\/strong> Fill out the correspondent number of lines on your seminar sheet with the name of the conference or symposium or lecture. When your seminar sheet is filled, please send it (or a scan) to the LNDS coordinator, together with the certificate of attendance and program of the conference.If you do not have signatures or attendance proofs for each entry, please let your thesis supervisor sign in the end of the seminar list before sending. <br>Seminar sheets cannot be filled with more than 3 entries from the same conference or symposium as you should attend talks on various neuroscience topics throughout your thesis on a regular basis &#8230; <br><br><strong>For online seminars you follow<\/strong> (for example those listed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldwideneuro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WorldWideNeuro<\/a> ), please put entries on your seminar sheet. To prove you attended, take a screenshot of your zoom\/webex window, combine several screenshots in ONE document and send it to the LNDS coordinator together with your filled seminar sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-decoration:underline\">3) How to validate e-learning courses<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>E-learning or <\/strong>Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and are often a good way for students to increase their understanding on a certain subject (e.g. if missing a study background in neurobiology) or to explore other fields.<br>Website crawlers helping you to find suitable offers (of neuroscience, programming and other courses) are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mooc-list.com\/tags\/neuroscience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/courseduck.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f8f8f8\"><em><strong>Please find <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1SgC29jk7WqsFyZ7vUNcrGDYsFiSF3xi9U5dyrn63ryU\/edit?usp=sharing\">here<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1SgC29jk7WqsFyZ7vUNcrGDYsFiSF3xi9U5dyrn63ryU\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a selection of LNDS-verified MOOC offers on neuroscience topics, programming and statistics skills<\/a> etc. Please do not hesitate to suggest further additions &#8230; <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other e-sources for neuroscience training:   <\/strong><br>&#8211; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fens.org\/careers\/training-activities\" target=\"_blank\">FENS<\/a> (Federation of European Neuroscience Societies) hosts a website with a collection of recorded courses and other training events, as well as a list of third-party offers on many neuroscience topics, but also career development and scientific dissemination. In order to receive information first hand, consider becoming a member of FENS (or the Swiss Society of Neuroscience SSN)!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/training.incf.org\/about-trainingspace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">INCF Training Space<\/a> &#8220;is an online hub that aims to make neuroscience educational materials more accessible to the global neuroscience community developed by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/incf.org\/about\/governance\/training-and-education-committee-tec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Training and Education Committee<\/a> &nbsp;composed of members from the INCF network, HBP, SfN, FENS, IBRO, IEEE, BD2K, and iNeuro Initiative.&#8221; For example, you can do <a href=\"https:\/\/training.incf.org\/study-tracks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introductory study tracks<\/a> on Neuroethics, Computational Neuroscience, Neuroinformatics, Neurobiology. Please contact the LNDS coordinator with the link to your chosen course to inquire for credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LNDS candidates can validate the participation to several e-learning events with study credits, but decisions are taken on an individual basis (Who is teaching? How many course hours? What is the course level, e.g. master, equivalent to introductory or advanced PhD courses?). To inquire about the validation of a course not yet listed by the LNDS (see link below), please send the name and link of the MOOC to the LNDS coordinator at least 2 weeks before course start.<br><strong>ECTS validation<\/strong>: Provide the LNDS coordinator with your course certificate (as for summer\/winter schools and international conferences). The LNDS cannot take over fees for certificates, but many courses have so-called &#8220;audit tracks&#8221; that are free of charge. Once you take such an audit track, please send a screenshot of your detailed (weekly) course session completion to the LNDS coordinator; your name and the name of the course you completed must be clearly visible, too. Please combine multiple screenshots in ONE document!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>E-training offers on research ethics and legislation<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/elearning.trree.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TRREE on-line training programme on ethics and regulation of health research involving human participants<\/a> (= <strong>T<\/strong>raining and <strong>R<\/strong>esources in <strong>R<\/strong>esearch <strong>E<\/strong>thics <strong>E<\/strong>valuation; each module can be separately taken and validated with ECTS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/couhes.mit.edu\/training-research-involving-human-subjects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COUHES Training: Research Involving Human Subjects<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/training.incf.org\/studytrack\/introduction-neuroethics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">INCF Neuroethics study track<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/ln\/home\/menuinst\/ln-doctoral-school\/course-credits.html#top\"><\/a>4) How to validate external courses and external training stays<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To inquire about the validation of doctoral school credits for  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>a course not listed on the LNDS website<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>a workshop, a summer or winter school or equivalent events<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>please send a program, weblink or similar to the LNDS coordinator <strong>BEFORE the event<\/strong>, and a certificate of attendance for ECTS validation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To inquire about the validation of doctoral school credits for a <strong>training stay outside of your home lab<\/strong> that allows you to learn a new technique or achieve a particular competence relevant for your thesis project please send a detailed description of the host lab and on the gain of the training stay for your thesis project, which additional techniques\/ comptences you will be achieving etc. to the LNDS coordinator <strong>BEFORE your training stay<\/strong>. For final credit attribution, a letter from the host institution\/ professor is necessary indicating the period of you stay and your duties\/ learning achievements is required.
