Rep\u00e9r\u00e9, apr\u00e8s son apprentissage chez Nicolas de Plattemontagne, par le Premier peintre du roi Charles Le Brun, il intervient sur tous les grands chantiers du r\u00e8gne de Louis XIV: \u00e0 Versailles (Grand Appartement du roi, escalier des Ambassadeurs et galeries des Glaces), au Trianon de Marbre et aux Tuileries. Il r\u00e9alise \u00e9galement de nombreux cartons de tapisserie pour la manufacture des Gobelins. Sa carri\u00e8re officielle exemplaire, de sa r\u00e9ception \u00e0 l&rsquo;Acad\u00e9mie royale (1672) \u00e0 son directorat de l&rsquo;Acad\u00e9mie de France \u00e0 Rome (1699-1704), ne doit pas \u00e9clipser son parcours artistique illustr\u00e9 par les grands d\u00e9cors des demeures royales dont son chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre, <em>Iris et Morph\u00e9e<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>La palette virtuose et singuli\u00e8re de ce sujet des <em>M\u00e9tamorphoses\u00a0<\/em>d&rsquo;Ovide et sa proximit\u00e9 avec l&rsquo;<em>Endymion<\/em> de Girodet ou le <em>Narcisse<\/em> de Gu\u00e9rin \u2013 peints un si\u00e8cle et demi plus tard \u2013 ont suscit\u00e9 un nouvel int\u00e9r\u00eat du public dans les ann\u00e9es 1960 pour ce peintre oubli\u00e9.
