Publi\u00e9 en 1763, The History of Lady Julia Mandeville\u00a0<\/em>est le premier roman de Frances Brooke (1724-1789) et celui qui rencontra le plus grand succ\u00e8s. Avant de publier ses propres travaux, l\u2019auteure anglaise \u00e9tait connue pour \u00eatre la traductrice des Lettres de Milady Juliette Catesby \u00e0 Milady Henriette Campley <\/em>(1760) de la com\u00e9dienne et romanci\u00e8re fran\u00e7aise Marie-Jeanne Riccoboni.<\/p>\n

The History of Lady Julia Mandeville <\/em>aborde plusieurs questions d\u2019ordre politique et esth\u00e9tique, il traite d\u2019\u00e9ducation, des r\u00f4les attribu\u00e9s aux hommes et aux femmes, \u00e0 l\u2019institution du mariage. Le roman, r\u00e9dig\u00e9 sous la forme \u00e9pistolaire, contient 77 lettres, \u00e9crites principalement par la veuve Lady Anne Wilmot et par le h\u00e9ros du roman Harry Mandeville.<\/p>\n
