Peu de monuments ont \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi importants pour la culture occidentale que le mausol\u00e9e d\u2019Halicarnasse. Comptant parmi les sept merveilles de l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9, il fut d\u00e9truit au Moyen \u00c2ge, conduisant ainsi d\u2019innombrables architectes, antiquaires, peintres et graveurs des temps modernes \u00e0 s\u2019interroger sur son aspect. \u00c9dit\u00e9 par Desmond Bryan Kraege (Section d’histoire de l’art<\/a>) et Felix Martin (RWTH Aachen), cet ouvrage \u2013 le premier consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 ce sujet \u2013 examine leurs \u0153uvres, qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse de publications savantes ou de simples croquis \u00e0 la plume, d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9gantes aquarelles ou encore d\u2019\u00e9difices entiers inspir\u00e9s par ce monument. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Couvrant la p\u00e9riode allant de la Renaissance italienne \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte et aux fouilles arch\u00e9ologiques des fondations du mausol\u00e9e dans les ann\u00e9es 1850, ce livre aborde les contextes culturels les plus importants d\u2019Europe occidentale, sans pour autant n\u00e9gliger les \u0153uvres d\u2019art provenant du P\u00e9rou, de Chine et du Japon. Les liens entre le monument et les th\u00e8mes du veuvage et du pouvoir politique f\u00e9minin sont analys\u00e9s, tout comme les multiples interactions entre architecture, texte et image qui caract\u00e9risent la post\u00e9rit\u00e9 du mausol\u00e9e. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
