L\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de John Donne (1572-1631) pour les arts visuels est \u00e9vident dans ses \u00e9crits. Cependant, sa familiarit\u00e9 avec les techniques picturales ne l’am\u00e8ne pas \u00e0 d\u00e9crire des images de fa\u00e7on simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bien que Donne connaisse les trait\u00e9s contemporains sur l’art, nombre de ses r\u00e9f\u00e9rences aux peintures et aux techniques picturales proviennent de sa lecture de la th\u00e9ologie, notamment des \u0153uvres de Nicolas de Cues et de Martin Luther. Ces sources pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment non identifi\u00e9es de l’imagerie picturale de Donne aident \u00e0 comprendre comment les arts plastiques deviennent son outil pour r\u00e9v\u00e9ler les limites de la repr\u00e9sentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R\u00e9dig\u00e9 dans le cadre du projet FNS Space, place and image in the poetry and prose of John Donne<\/a>, et disponible en texte int\u00e9gral<\/a>, cet ouvrage de Kirsten Stirling (Section d’anglais<\/a>) apporte un \u00e9clairage nouveau sur certains des po\u00e8mes les plus connus, tant profanes que religieux, de John Donne et \u00e9largit notre appr\u00e9ciation de cet auteur en tant qu’artiste explorant constamment les limites de sa propre pratique de po\u00e8te.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
