Peu sont connus et tr\u00e8s peu ont surv\u00e9cu. En 1799, quelques amis lausannois fondent le Cercle du Commerce; apr\u00e8s un demi-si\u00e8cle d\u2019existence, il est absorb\u00e9 en 1850 par le Cercle litt\u00e9raire, n\u00e9 vingt ans apr\u00e8s lui en 1819.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les archives du Cercle du Commerce, conserv\u00e9es parmi celles du Cercle litt\u00e9raire et inventori\u00e9es r\u00e9cemment, ont permis \u00e0 \u00c9tienne Hofmann (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/hist\/home.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/hist\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Section d\u2019histoire<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/ibc\/home.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.unil.ch\/ibc\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institut Benjamin Constant<\/a>) d\u2019\u00e9crire l\u2019histoire de ce lieu de sociabilit\u00e9, fid\u00e8le \u00e0 la place Saint-Fran\u00e7ois, o\u00f9 se sont retrouv\u00e9s une centaine de commer\u00e7ants, de politiciens et de hauts fonctionnaires vaudois pour partager quelques loisirs, \u00e9changer leurs opinions, discuter les nouvelles dans une p\u00e9riode riche en rebondissements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e9 tout au d\u00e9but de la R\u00e9publique helv\u00e9tique, fond\u00e9 par des patriotes \u00e9troitement li\u00e9s \u00e0 la R\u00e9volution vaudoise, ce Cercle aura travers\u00e9 cinq r\u00e9gimes politiques. Il est incontestablement un important lieu de m\u00e9moire lausannois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9tienne Hofmann, <em><a
