Conserv\u00e9 au British Museum de Londres (P. BM EA 10554), le papyrus Greenfield provient d\u2019une c\u00e9l\u00e8bre tombe, la cachette royale de Deir el-Bahari, et appartenait \u00e0 une pr\u00eatresse de haut rang du temple de Karnak. D\u2019une longueur exceptionnelle de plus de 37 m, ce papyrus contient des textes et des sc\u00e8nes destin\u00e9s \u00e0 aider sa propri\u00e9taire dans le s\u00e9jour des morts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce manuscrit m\u00e9lange des formules fun\u00e9raires, des extraits de rituels, des hymnes et des sc\u00e8nes dites \u00abmythologiques\u00bb, ce qui en fait un document particuli\u00e8rement original. Copi\u00e9 vers 950 av. notre \u00e8re, il fournit \u00e9galement des indications pr\u00e9cieuses pour comprendre l’histoire et l’\u00e9volution des textes fun\u00e9raires en \u00c9gypte ancienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cet ouvrage constitue la premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition compl\u00e8te de ce papyrus. L\u2019\u00e9tude de ce manuscrit par Giuseppina Lenzo (Institut d’arch\u00e9ologie et des sciences de l’antiquit\u00e9<\/a>) a obtenu le soutien du British Museum, de la Facult\u00e9 des lettres et de la Fondation Chuard-Schmid de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Lausanne, ainsi que de l’Institut fran\u00e7ais d’arch\u00e9ologie orientale du Caire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
