En examinant les itin\u00e9raires d’acteurs indiens et suisses (voyageurs, orientalistes, traducteurs, activistes politiques, missionnaires\u2026) qui ont fait des allers-retours entre l’Inde et la Suisse durant la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XXe si\u00e8cle, cet ouvrage explore l’histoire des relations culturelles entre les deux pays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les itin\u00e9raires \u00e9tudi\u00e9s par les auteurs de ce livre, dont font partie Philippe Bornet et Maya Burger (tous deux de la Section de langues et civilisations slaves et de l\u2019Asie du Sud<\/a>) sont ceux de Frieda Hauswirth, qui a cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 la lutte pour la libert\u00e9 en Inde, d’Eva Lombard et d’Elisabeth Petitpierre, qui se sont rendues en Inde pour pratiquer la m\u00e9decine et sauver des \u00e2mes, de Jakob Urner, un missionnaire zurichois qui a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une affinit\u00e9 \u00e9lective pour la litt\u00e9rature religieuse des Lingayats, de Selvarajan Yesudianan qui s’est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 l’\u00e9sot\u00e9riste Elisabeth Haich et a enseign\u00e9 en Suisse une conception idiosyncrasique du yoga, et de Lizelle Reymond qui a publi\u00e9 un livre passablement lu, relatant sa rencontre avec le ma\u00eetre du samkhya Sri Anirvan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disponible en texte int\u00e9gral sur le site de l\u2019\u00e9diteur<\/a>, cet ouvrage fait suite \u00e0 un projet de recherche<\/a>, soutenu par le Fonds national suisse, consacr\u00e9 au r\u00f4le jou\u00e9 par la Suisse dans l\u2019histoire des relations entre l\u2019Inde et l\u2019Europe, notamment en raison de sa position g\u00e9ographique centrale et de son multilinguisme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
