Au cours des trente derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es de sa carri\u00e8re, le po\u00e8te irlandais Seamus Heaney (1939-2013), po\u00e8te fortement attach\u00e9 \u00e0 ses racines rurales, a entretenu une \u00e9troite relation avec Virgile, que ce soit dans ses traductions du latin, ses po\u00e8mes originaux en anglais ou ses \u00e9crits en prose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans ce livre, Rachel Falconer (Section d\u2019anglais<\/a>) montre comment Heaney \u00e9voque et transforme des motifs virgiliens familiers et s\u2019inspire du rythme, de la cadence et de la musicalit\u00e9 des hexam\u00e8tres de Virgile qui se retrouvent ainsi dans ses \u00e9glogues et ses sonnets. La vie et l\u2019\u0153uvre du po\u00e8te latin, ainsi que son \u00e9poque, contribuent \u00e9galement \u00e0 fa\u00e7onner la po\u00e9tique en prose de Heaney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En dialogue avec Virgile, ainsi qu’avec d’autres po\u00e8tes classiques et modernes, Heaney d\u00e9veloppe sa notion de \u00ab r\u00e9paration \u00bb de la po\u00e9sie : le rem\u00e8de que la po\u00e9sie peut offrir contre la trag\u00e9die historique, la souffrance et la perte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
