I am a glaciologist working on the dynamics and mass balance of the Greenland Ice Sheet.<\/strong> I use a combination of field measurements, remotely-sensed data and numerical models to explore the vulnerability of the Greenland Ice Sheet to projected climate change. I have particular interests in the manipulation and analysis of large, multi-dimensional datasets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am specialized in the geophysical surveying of polar ice sheets, with a focus on internal and subglacial processes that drive ice-flow dynamics. My research centers on using radio echo sounding to derive critical ice properties, such as ice-crystal orientation and its influence on mechanical ice deformation. I am particularly interested in interdisciplinary approaches that combine radar-derived data with complementary observations, such as ice cores, and ice-flow models, to connect precise point observations with larger spatial scales essential for understanding ice-sheet-wide processes.

My current research focuses on using autonomous phase-sensitive radio echo sounding (ApRES) to monitor englacial and subglacial hydrology near high-elevation surface lakes in Southwest Greenland. Combined with hydrological and geodetic measurements, this research helps evaluate the efficiency of the subglacial drainage system under thick-ice conditions. Using these field observations to parametrize the GlaDS subglacial hydrology model and the Elmer\/Ice ice-flow model, I aim to identify the conditions that promote the development of efficient drainage systems under the Greenland Ice sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a doctoral student focusing on the dynamics of the Greenland Ice Sheet. I obtained my bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in physical geography from the University of Graz, specializing in Arctic glaciology and the application of remote sensing in polar regions. My academic journey includes study experiences in the Czech Republic, Canada, Sweden, and Svalbard, as well as field surveys in Greenland and Svalbard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
