Notice bio-bibliographique
Since 2017, Andy Reilly has worked as a doctoral assistant at the University of Lausanne, where he has written his PhD thesis under the supervision of Professor Kevin Curran. His thesis is entitled “William Shakespeare’s Hamlet in Publication and Performance, 1709-1735”. His thesis draws on book history, analytical bibliography, and textual studies in its analysis of single-text editions of Hamlet published in the early eighteenth century.
Prior to his doctoral studies, Andy obtained the following degrees:
In 2018, he received a University of Lausanne faculty prize for his MA mémoire, which was entitled “Toponyms, Alcohol and Tobacco: Cultural Markers and Status Hierarchies in Seventeenth-Century London Comedies” and was written under the supervision of Professor Kevin Curran.
During the course of his doctoral studies, Andy has also published two short articles in Notes and Queries and one full-length journal article. The most recent of these publications is entitled “Thomas Johnson’s and Mary Wellington’s Single-Text Editions of Hamlet and the Copyright Act of 1710”. This article will be published in Modern Philology next month.
In addition to his scholarly interest in theatrical texts, Andy has also acted in a number of theatrical performances at the University of Lausanne, and in 2020 directed his first play, Zinnie Harris’ Meet Me at Dawn. This production starred Alisa Steinhauser and Mathilde Coquillat, with music written and performed by Kevin Curran, and was performed at the Lausanne Shakespeare Festival and the Friscènes International Theatre Festival in Fribourg.
