Une brève introduction sur les points clefs de votre développement de carrière aussi bien dans l'académique qu'ailleurs.
Research has a long tradition of being shared and developed through papers, meetings, conferences and conversations. Sharing research online is rapidly becoming part of the same process and is no different once you know how it is done.
Whether in an academic or a non-academic research career, when you share on the various platforms you integrate into your daily workflows, you create new possibilities for research, collaborative partnerships and career opportunities.
A one day interactive workshop to help you prepare for your PhD defence (differences between private and public defences; prepare for the jury's questions).
This workshop gives doctoral and postdoctoral researchers insights into the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need in order to be successful in a leadership role. The aim of this workshop is to enable participants to have an awareness of five leadership theories to help them develop their own leadership style as a new leader, as well as an understanding of communication styles and what a successful work environment is like and how to help create the environment in which they want to work.

Networking is commonly acknowledged to be vital for professional development and essential for a career in academic research beyond the university. But can be a challenge for many.
In this highly interactive, practical workshop. we will explore the benefits and technique of networking for professional development. We will examine the skills involved in engaging with others in different environments such as the academic conference, the formal and informal professional connections and the proactive approaches that lay down the foundations of our career path ahead.
Participants will work on their presentations and practice during the day. Immediately applicable tools and strategies will be provided.
A half-day workshop, to cover different topics through short presentations and discussion.
Starting an ambitious project like a PhD requires planning, time management, work discipline and a clear mind around goals, expectations, and respective roles between the doctoral candidate and the supervisor.
A quick introduction to the essentials of your career development, whether on the academic path or elsewhere.
The role of thesis supervisor is only one of the many responsibilities of professors and senior researchers. It is a role central however, to the life and career of the young researchers under their supervision. In addition to guiding and training in the various stages of a research project, thesis supervisors are often the first point of contact for career-related issues.
Over coffee and croissants, we will examine the role of thesis supervisors in the professional development of doctoral candidates. The session will be led by Dr. Isabelle Skakni, Head of the Academic Succession and Careers Unit, HES-SO Rectorate, and by Dr. Verity Elston, Co-Director of the Graduate Campus UNIL.
The main language of the workshop is French. Participants are free to ask questions in English, and small groups will be organised in English wherever possible.
An opportunity for doctoral and postdoc researchers from all UNIL faculties to review their current situation and how they could imagine their next career steps. The workshop builds on an initial reflection on your current strengths and resources and with that as a base, supports you in exploring where and how you might reconfigure/re-imagine your research interests in all the possible paths beyond that of academic research: public or private sector, non-profit and independent. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to meet and learn from UNIL doctorate holders who have gone on to careers in different sectors.
Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity of a one-on-one consultation with one of the trainers, and will be provided with information on the resources available to them to explore further.
The workshop will be conducted bilingually in French and in English.
A practical look at the development of an academic career, whatever the scientific discipline: from putting together your CV to knowing what to focus on next. We review the path from doctorate to professorship, to understand how good preparation involves much more than an impressive list of publications. Through discussion and practical work, we review the importance of contribution to the scientific community as much as research expertise, teaching experience and active participation in academic life. Includes the teaching philosophy statement as well as individual feedback on the CV.
Language: the workshop presentations will be provided in English. Participants will have the option of preparing their work in French or English.
