Philippe Bacchetta is Full Professor of Macroeconomics at HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne, and Swiss Finance Institute Senior Chair. He is also Program Director of the International Macroeconomics and Finance program of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, London).

His research interests include international finance, financial crises, exchange rates and monetary economics.

Philippe Bacchetta received his Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from Harvard University and his B.A. and M.S. in economics from HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne. From 1998 to 2007, he was director of the Study Center Gerzensee, a foundation of the Swiss National Bank. He has also been an assistant professor at Brandeis University, USA, and at ESADE and the Instituto de Análisis Económico, both in Barcelona. He has been visiting professor at several universities in Switzerland, France, Germany and Spain. Moreover, he has been visiting scholar at Harvard University, at the the International Monetary Fund and an academic consultant at various central banks. He is a fellow of the European Economic Association.

In 2011 he was awarded an Advanced Researcher Grant by the European Research Council (ERC).
