My PhD was in computational cell biology, but now I would call myself an infectious disease modeller. More specifically, I am interested in how plasmid co-infection affects plasmid dynamics, and why do certain genes end up on plasmids. Within the EE group, I am using techniques from ecological modeling and bioinformatics to investigate how between strain competition for hosts impacts the evolution of pathogenic bacteria.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 35%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aswin Krishna &#8211; PhD Student<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I am a PhD student with a background in engineering and ecology. Using data analysis and mathematical modelling, I study the strain dynamics of&nbsp;<em>Streptococcus pneumoniae<\/em>&nbsp;and the mechanisms that maintain high levels of antigenic diversity in this species. My perspective focuses on the role of within-host strain competition on the maintenance of this diversity.
