The long-term vision: can we enable practitioners to build solutions faster, and where are the limits?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moises Maldonado gave a poster pitch,&nbsp;<strong>\u201cMitigating Law-Reality Gaps: Designing Responsible AI for Humanitarian Legal Analysis and Rights Advocacy\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 our work with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency on legal assistants. The \u201claw-reality gap\u201d is that what happens on the ground and what the law prescribes are sometimes two very different realities for human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Prof. Zavolokina&#8217;s keynote,\u00a0<strong>\u201cSlow Down or Speed Up? Designing AI Systems for Human Judgment,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0she spoke about two research streams \u2013 and two human cognitive failures. We consume content online too fast, often uncritically, which is where digital tools for critical thinking against propaganda and disinformation can help us slow down. And in crisis intelligence, where information moves faster than we can process it, AI can help us speed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When designing AI systems, the first question shouldn\u2019t be \u201cwhat for?\u201d.
