Doctoral Student, Group Ciriello
I am joining as a doctoral student in the Computational Systems Oncology lab headed by Dr. Giovanni Ciriello. I have prior training in Information Technology and Mathematical Innovations, with a minor in Electronics and Robotics at the undergraduate level from Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi. Following this, I studied Computational Biology during my M. Tech from IIIT Delhi, India. I also have industrial research experience at Life Sciences division, TATA Research and Innovations lab in Pune, India. Visit my website

Diana Avalos Doctoral student, Group Delaneau
I started my PhD in 2019 in Pr. Dermitzakis lab at the University of Geneva. My work focuses on the interplay between genetic variation, epigenetic changes and regulation of gene expression in immune cells. I am now joining the Systems and Population Genetics Group lead by Delaneau for the next 2 years of my PhD. Previously I completed a Master on computational neurosciences at EPFL and worked on the development of Brain Machine Interfaces in Pr. Sabes neuroscience lab at the University of San Francisco.

Les Mystères de l'UNIL or when Science is coming to meet you!
Les Mystères de l'UNIL is a combination of knowledge and entertainment. A smart way to explore some of the mysteries of science.
This year, DBC researchers, Sarah Schmid, Diogo Ribeiro, Théo Cavinato (master's student) and Ioanna Stefani introduce modern science to the younger generation with "Darwin's Dodo: The Evolution of Species"
Find out how and why species can become extinct by exploring the case of the dodo.
Help the dodo find love for the survival of its species in this game! The great thing is that even adults can play !!

SNSF’s Optimus Agora prize 2021 goes to “In the light of evolution”
How to popularize evolution and phylogenetics? Through the new project “In the light of evolution”, DBC Group Leader Christophe Dessimoz, Outreach Manager Marie-Claude Blatter and Training Manager Monique Zahn aim to foster greater public interest as well as a practical understanding of this fundamental but rather abstract theme. The project will be built around a series of short stories and interactive workshops addressing concrete questions such as ‘How much DNA do humans and bananas have in common?’. The project has just been awarded the 2021 Optimus Agora prize of the SNSF.

WHEN NEMO FINDS HIS STRIPES
The famous cute-orange and white-striped young fish may not have as many stripes as his cartoon pal ?!
The specie of sea anemone where they live, their age and even his hormones come into play for determining his white stripes pattern!
Get to know more about clown-fish fascinating evolution by reading this paper in PNAS- with Pauline Salis, Anna Marcionetti and Nicolas Salamin.
