My name is Pumin Li, coming from Taizhou, China. My hometown is a small, beautiful, and peaceful city near the sea. I graduated from Nanjing University. My major is bioinformatics, now doing some research on cancer. I know that doing research is never easy. What helps get me through is my passion and belief that I can do something within my power for human health. I feel honored to join Ciriello and Hanahan Lab. Hope I can achieve more in the future. I like to do some sports and travel in my leisure time. If you also have the same hobbies, I’m glad to have fun together. Hope everyone has a great time and achieves dreams here.

After completing a bachelor’s degree in physics in my mega-home-town of Mexico City, I moved to Barcelona to pursue a PhD in evolutionary biology focusing on the interplay between recombination and gene duplication. Afterwards, during two short postdocs in Lyon, my research shifted from exploring the evolution of recombination via simulations to studying robustness in floral morphogenesis by searching for correlations between gene expression and morphology. Continuing in this somewhat interdisciplinary path, I have now joined Prof. Nicolas Salamin’s group as a postdoc to study the role played by gene duplication and non-coding genomic regions in the evolution and adaptation of clownfishes.

I am an American doctoral student with a master’s in marine science from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia. My focus as a marine biologist in Professor Mike Berumen’s lab was in tropical reef ecology. During my master’s degree, I did fieldwork in the Red Sea and Papua New Guinea, collaborating with James Cook University in Australia and CRIOBE/University of Perpignan in French Polynesia. My thesis work examined the population turnover of the orange clownfish and its anemone host in Papua New Guinea. Scuba diving and underwater photography are passions of mine.

I am excited to be joining Professor Nicolas Salamin’s group and continuing my work with clownfish while branching out into comparative genomics and evolutionary modeling.

Abstract: Biological age is a term increasingly used to refer to the idea that we age at different rates. Work has shown that measures of biological age can be developed, which are prognostic of future mortality. However, the field is still in its infancy, with research often showing statistically significant results, but less emphasis on their implications, or their causes.
|
|
Peter will discuss penalised regression approaches to estimation of chronological age and (hidden) biological age in high dimensional -omics assays such as proteomics, using the highly (11 -omics assays) annotated ORCADES population cohort, and share results of their prognostic value, as well as considering the wider context and outlook for the field.

dependent on recent activity and modulatory signals, while mal-adaptation is a central aspect in many brain disorders (synaptopathies) and loss of synaptic connectivity is a final common pathwayfor several neurodegenerative disorders.

EMBO Workshop

Organized by Professors Giovanni Ciriello and Luca Magnani, the EMBO Workshop will bring together an interdisciplinary community of scientists with the goal of facilitating discussion and collaborations around genetic and non-genetic mechanisms of cancer evolution. The primary objective is to expand the current genetic-centric view with a mechanistic perspective centred around transcriptional and epigenetic alterations.

On behalf of the federal government, the SNSF has introduced a transitional measure – the SNSF Advanced Grants – for those who intended to apply for an ERC Advanced Grant in 2021.
