EDUCATION AND OUTREACH

APNS WORKSHOP-Grants-01

Workshop 2 : May 17, 1-4 pm (ZOOM)

« How to make an academic career: from PhD to Professorship »

The Dos and Don’ts of grant writing & CV beyond the actual research plan
By Stuart Lane, Professor at FGSE UNIL and SNSF Counselor

Stuart Lane will lead a workshop that will address how you build an academic career, and what this means for how you develop a competitive CV. The workshop will look at the notion of « scientific achievements » and what matters to grant funding bodies and appointment panels; how you should plan your career to profit from the time before you secure a tenured post; and how you need to think about your academic mobility as part of this. The workshop will contain some exercises to help you to reflect on these issues. In leading this workshop, he will draw upon his experience in supervising over 40 PhD students, examining more than 50 and more than 40 appointment commission and promotion evaluations. He is currently Vice President of the SNSF Careers Commission and also President of the SNSF Post Doc Mobility (Natural Science) and Ambizione (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) panels. As a member of the research council, he is encouraged to diffuse the SNSF’s practices.
