Andrew Stephan Denning

Andrew Denning was born in Reno, Nevada, USA in 1983. He completed his Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction at the University of Nevada in 2005. He received his Master’s (2007) and Ph.D. in History (2011) from the University of California, Davis. He is currently Assistant Professor of modern European history at the University of Kansas.

Denning’s work examines mobility in twentieth-century Europe. He studies the movement of people, goods, ideas, and practices to reconstruct transnational and global relationships, connecting cultural, technological, and environmental history. His book, Skiing into Modernity, was published by University of California Press in 2015, and his work has appeared in a wide range of academic journals and popular publications, including American Historical Review, Central European History, Environmental History, and The Atlantic.

His work has been supported by grants and fellowships from the American Philosophical Society, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), International Olympic Committee, the Wolfsonian-FIU, the University of British Columbia, the University of California, and the University of Kansas.
