This project builds on our recent and exciting work on high-resolution, high-density, 3D and 4D surveying of alpine glaciers using a newly developed drone-based ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system. PhD 1 will focus on characterizing and monitoring steep, inaccessible glaciers to enhance our understanding of the physical processes driving ice avalanches. PhD 2 will concentrate on mapping and monitoring englacial and subglacial hydrological networks, investigating seasonal and interannual changes to advance glacier hydrology research. Successful applicants will have a strong quantitative and computer programming background, and hold a Master’s degree in geophysics, physics, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline. A passion for conducting multi-day fieldwork in remote and challenging alpine environments is also essential.

🔗 Learn more and apply here: https://bit.ly/4eGVCzh
🗓️ Application deadline: January 15, 2025

The CRAG group has 2 PhD student openings as part of the Drone Radar for Alpine Glacier ObservatioN (DRAGON 🐉) project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
