Hotel Information
Conference participants are asked to make independent arrangements for accommodation. Below is a list of hotels within easy reach of the University of Lausanne, and that can guarantee conference room rates to conference participants. Several rooms (single and double) are pre-booked for the conference in the different hotels until the end of April 2025, with some hotels offering the preferential rate well into May. Participants should mention the ‘Re-Configuring the Apophatic Tradition in Late Medieval England’ conference when booking in order to obtain the conference rate. Rooms can be booked directly with the hotels by phone or by email. Hotels in Lausanne tend to be small and they can fill up quickly, so it is advisable to book early. There is a link to a list of further hotels at the bottom of this page.
The conference will take place at Quartier UNIL-Mouline, University of Lausanne, situated on the banks of Lake Geneva on the west side of the city of Lausanne. The site is a short walk from the metro stop UNIL-Mouline (M1).

Please note, most hotels in Lausanne issue tourists with a Lausanne Transport Card, which gives any guest staying in Lausanne and paying the tourist tax FREE and unrestricted access to all the public transport services in the city (bus, train, and metro). The ticket is valid for the duration of the hotel reservation, including arrival and departure days. ID must be presented. Trips between Lausanne city centre to the UNIL campus are included in this pass. Please check with your hotel when booking.
Hotel Continental is conveniently situated directly across from Lausanne main station. 15 rooms have been pre-booked at the Hotel Continental at a rate of 180 CHF per night, breakfast included. The booking deadline is 30 April 2025.

The Carlton Boutique Hotel, is a historic establishment in the heart of Lausanne. It is directly adjacent to the Délices metro stop, as well as a mere 5 minutes’ walk from the lake.
We have reserved 10 single and 10 double rooms, at a rate of 210 CHF per weekday night (and 170 CHF per weekend night – on the 13 and 14 September) and 235 CHF per weekday night (195 CHF per weekend night), respectively. The price includes breakfast, services, the VAT, and internet. The booking deadline is 1 May 2025.
In order to book a room at the conference rate, participants must fill out a booking form and send it to contact@carltonlausanne.ch, mentioning the promotional code ‘UNIL2025’, along with a copy of your ID and credit card. This is necessary in order to confirm your reservation.
Reservations can be modified or cancelled without charge up to 31 days prior to arrival.
The Ibis is well-located in Lausanne, and a more economical option. Close to the ‘Vigie’ metro stop and several bus lines, it is easily reachable from the central station and the university. It is within walking distance of the historic centre and the Flon district.
15 single rooms have been pre-booked at a rate of 155.5 CHF per night, including breakfast, services, and VAT. The booking deadline is 23 May 2025.

Though we have not been able to secure conference rates for Fassbind hotels, they offer rooms at a variety of price points, ranging from 123 CHF to 228 CHF per night, and with a guaranteed 5% discounts for bookings made via their website. Additionally, prices vary with time, so earlier bookings will benefit from lower prices. Note, however, that breakfast and city tax are not included.
The Alpha–Palmiers 4*, situated a few mins walk north of the Lausanne station, has tropical gardens, together with Thai and Italian restaurants, a sauna and hamman. The Agora Swiss Night 4* is located in the quiet Sous-Gare neighbourhood and within walking distance of the lake, and also boasts a fitness room and sauna. The Swiss Wine 3* and Swiss Chocolate 3* hotels are located near the Bessières and Ours metro M2 stops, and closer to the shopping and nightlife districts of Lausanne.

- A youth hostel: the Auberge de Jeunesse de Lausanne is centrally situated, and offers double rooms starting at 113 CHF per night, and single rooms with shower/toilet starting at 83 CHF per night, as well as multi-bed rooms. - Hotel Elite 3*: Located right in the city centre, it is a short walk from both the Lausanne train station, and the historical and cultural centre.
