We are excited to announce that Professor K\u00e9vin Huguenin from the University of Lausanne, will be delivering a seminar on\u00a0Addressing the Address Books\u2019 (Interdependent) Privacy Issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract:<\/strong> In recent years, the concept of privacy has evolved, revealing that it is no longer solely within the control of the individual concerned. A particularly noteworthy development is the concept of interdependent privacy\u2014or bystander privacy in the context of ubiquitous technologies\u2014which refers to situations where an individual’s privacy is compromised by others. This issue has been explored in various domains, including social networks, location-based services, genomics, and smart homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this talk, Professor Huguenin will present recent research on the privacy challenges associated with the use of online address books, an area that, surprisingly, has been largely overlooked. Specifically, he will share findings from both legal and user-centered analyses of address book privacy issues. The legal analysis, conducted through the lens of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), consists of a theoretical component examining the roles, rights, and obligations of the different stakeholders, as well as an experimental component involving interactions with service providers. The user-centered analysis focuses on individuals’ perceptions of privacy concerns related to address books and on their actual behaviors as users. This work was done in collaboration with Prof. Mathias Humbert and Prof. Aurelia Tam\u00f2-Larrieux (School of Law@UNIL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short\u00a0bio:<\/strong>\u00a0Professor K\u00e9vin Huguenin is a professor at \u00a0UNIL-HEC Lausanne<\/a>, where he leads the Information Security and Privacy Lab, within the Department of Information Systems. Before he joined UNIL in 2016, he held a tenured\u00a0researcher position (Charg\u00e9 de Recherche) at\u00a0LAAS-CNRS<\/a>, which he joined in 2015, in the Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance group (TSF<\/a>). Prior to that,\u00a0Professor Huguenin worked as a post-doctoral researcher at\u00a0EPFL<\/a>, in the Laboratory for Communications and Applications (LCA1<\/a>) headed by\u00a0Jean-Pierre Hubaux<\/a>, from 2011 to 2014, and at\u00a0McGill University<\/a>, in the Distributed Information Systems Laboratory (DISL<\/a>) headed by\u00a0Bettina Kemme<\/a>, in 2011. During his time at EPFL, he worked for some time at the\u00a0Nokia Research Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor K\u00e9vin Huguenin earned\u00a0his PhD degree from the\u00a0Universit\u00e9 of Rennes<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Inria in 2010 and a master\u2019s degree in computer science from the\u00a0Universit\u00e9 de Nice \u2014 Sophia Antipolis<\/a>\u00a0in 2007. During his PhD, he worked in the Large-Scale Dynamic Distributed System Group (ASAP<\/a>) at\u00a0IRISA<\/a>\u2013Inria<\/a>, under the supervision of\u00a0Anne-Marie Kermarrec<\/a>\u00a0(now at EPFL). He completed an internship at\u00a0Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam<\/a>\u00a0and at\u00a0Telefonica I&D<\/a>\u00a0in 2008 and 2009 respectively.\u00a0He is a former student of\u00a0Ecole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure (ENS) de Cachan \u2013 Antenne de Bretagne<\/a>\u00a0(now\u00a0ENS Rennes<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
