@ A. Terrier

We are soon three years into the UN-spearheaded 2015-2030 agenda for sustainable development, known as the SDGs. What role for the environment in the SDGs, and how are the practices of development aid evolving?

The panel sessions will offer a critical reading of the SDGs and their relation to the Environment on the one hand, and to the evolution of the practices of International Cooperation (“Aide au développement”) on the other. They will draw upon the work of all the Development, Societies, Environments research group members, as the SDGs are a unifying theme. Indeed, most of the goals easily connect to one or the other of the research topics of the groups. Examples include farming and nutrition, water and sanitation, deforestation, solid waste management, housing, and so on so forth.

By adopting a both theoretical-critical and a practice-oriented approach, the day’s sessions will be of interest to both academics and local actors from the private sector and civil society in a broad sense (e.g. local NGOs or federations of NGOs, Geneva-based UN offices, local Enterprise foundations, etc.).

Submission of abstracts for presentations and posters to the session should address the following themes:

  • Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

  • Goal 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all

  • Goal 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

  • Goal 15: Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss
