The annual HEC Lausanne EMBA Alumni Homecoming event took place on November 10th 2018, at the Casino de Morges.
The programme and the Alumni Association teamed up again to offer the community a second edition of flashbacks, fun moments with old friends and networking opportunities. We welcomed around 100 Alumni and Students (20%), representing almost all classes since the beginning of the Executive MBA back in 2006!
Special congratulations to Class of 2016 for being the most represented with almost 50% of graduates present. Both from this class, the two main speakers for the evening, Steve Dornan and Andre Reis came up with a well-cooked quiz (or examination, they would say). Part of it was a refreshing set of questions taking the guests back in their EMBA time… too long ago sometimes. Indeed, it was not easy for everyone to remember the course of Business Economics and what term is used to describe a market where demand meets supply or that of Strategic Management and Porter’s 5 forces.
A special thank you to Steve and Andre for entertaining the guests throughout the evening and to everyone for taking part in this memorable reunion.
See you next year!

Paddles up, Attention, Go!
It’s all about team spirit… and our HEC Lausanne Executive MBA team understood that very well at the 2018 Paddle for Cancer Dragonboat Festival that took place on September 2nd.
For our third participation in the event, our team of Alumni, Students and Staff managed to break their record. We jumped from being 19th in 2017 to wining the competition this year.
Although there was no real performance objective set, we exceeded that of team experience and spirit. As Deniz recalls: “A quick hello in the morning turned up to become great hugs in the afternoon. 17 people constituted our amazing team full of openness, friendliness and dedication. It was a great journey!”
Thanks to all the team members and programme directors for making this a fun event always bringing the Executive MBA community closer. It was a wonderful day also enlightened by the team members’ families that were present to support us… A huge thank you to them too!
The Paddle for Cancer Dragonboat Festival is a charity event is organised by the English Speaking Cancer Association (ESCA) in order to raise funds and help them in their day-to-day activities.
3, 2, 1, Go!
Class of 2019 will be starting their HEC Lausanne Executive MBA next August 27th.
For many of them, the last time they set foot in an academic institution was years ago. The Introductory Week, taking place off-campus at the Lausanne Palace, is therefore a way of kick-starting the return to studying, helping get re-acquainted back into a learning mode.
It will be the first of the programme’s three capstone projects that will tackle the week; the Strategy & Sustainability Project. Based on a real case study brought up by one of our partner companies, Nestlé, participants will explore in groups the challenges of aiming for competitiveness and sustainability along the entire value chain.
The Introductory Week is intensive but also has a strong social aspect, very much oriented toward mingling and networking events. An efficient class dynamic comes from hard work and commitment but also by having fun and sharing great moments.
Be open-minded and curious! This is a life-changing and exciting experience. Don’t look at it with an examination-oriented mind. Enjoy the experience in itself!Violet S Balakrishnan, Alumna 2017
Don’t try to do it, do it to try! Find your rhythm and don’t focus on the finish line! The Executive MBA is like a very long race and you will be pushed to the limits of time, patience and energy. The goal is how you get to the end! Have fun and enjoy the incredibly exciting moments!Raphaël Lüdemann, Class of 2018

A few weeks ago, part of the current Class of 2018 joined a visit organised by the programme to the OMEGA headquarters in Biel/Bienne.
After a warm welcome upon arrival, our participants dove right into the subject with an “All about OMEGA” presentation by CEO Mr. Aeschlimann. “A great example from a leadership and public speaking point of view. He was prepared and managed to make references to companies some of us are working for. “, highlights Fabrice.
“Mr. Aeschlimann truly transmitted the passion of his brand, from the incredible history to the vision of the future.”, recalls Raphaël. The presentation covered also today’s challenges and how the company faces them; connected watches, quartz watches, influencers, Millennials, Snapchat… “The world is changing and Omega will be part of it.”, he adds.
The HEC Lausanne Executive MBA participants then moved on to the visit of the new factory for more technical insights. “A clear, transparent, extremely well organised building”, says Raphaël. “The glass and wood architecture invites to dream and observe watchmakers assemble step by step the final product.”
The outing ended with a well-deserved apéro and the visit of the OMEGA museum. “A trip totally worth it”, sums up Ziroli.
