The Mercator Fellowship on International Affairs promotes 25 outstanding German and four outstanding Swiss university graduates and young professionals from all fields to take key positions both in international NGOs and political institutions in and outside Germany. The objective of the programme is to train young leaders who think and act internationally and increase the representation of German-speaking personnel occupying leadership positions in international organisations.
Fellows should be competent and motivated university graduates. They select the project topic of global relevance themselves (for example, climate change, energy security, economic and financial crisis, nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, human rights and freedom of information, information security, water shortage), which then determines the work placements they choose.
During the 12-month course, the fellows work in two or three international organisations or globally active NGOs around the world. Information
