A short boat ride away from Saint Mark’s Square lies the island of San Servolo which, since 1995, has been home to Venice International University (VIU).
Each year, professors and students gather on this campus from various universities across the world, and UNIL has just joined in this venture. Anyone interested is invited to apply to take part in next semester’s courses. The teaching at VIU is conducted entirely in English and centres on environmental issues. The idea is to come together in an academic environment that fosters fully multicultural exchanges. Thirteen universities have already joined the programme, including Duke and Boston College from the United States, Waseda from Tokyo in Japan, Tsinghua from China and Tel Aviv from Israel.
