Access to Lausanne

Lausanne is situated in Western Switzerland. So Geneva airport is the best airline destination to get to Lausanne (in about 50 mins by train or by car). Another option is Zurich airport situated in about 2,5 hours by train or by car from Lausanne.



  • By train

The simplest and often fastest way to travel from both Swiss airports to Lausanne is by train. You can buy tickets at the ticket office or in vending machines directly at the railway station.

Geneva airport: a direct train from Geneva airport to Lausanne Gare runs every 20 minutes.
A one-way ticket (2nd class) costs CHF 27.-

Zurich airport: a train from Zurich airport to Lausanne Gare runs 3-4 times per hour.
A one-way ticket (2nd class) costs CHF 77.-

Motorway vignette is mandatory. It costs CHF 40 and is available at the customs, post offices and service stations.
Seat belt must be worn in the front and back of the vehicle.

  • Public transportation in Lausanne

Both bus and metro lines operate within the city of Lausanne. Timetables, plans, connections and other useful information are available on TL official site. Tickets can be purchased at a vending machine situated in every station.

All Lausanne hotels usually provide their guests with a Lausanne Transport Card at check-in. The card allows you to use all public transportation systems in the Lausanne area (zones 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19 – 2nd class) for free during the whole period of your stay at the hotel.
