Speed dating event

Registration for scientists is now closed!

Instructions for scientists who registered already:

The speed dating event will take place in the café of the Anthropôle building on Wednesday, 10th February. You will each receive an email where you will be assigned to one of two groups.

  • Group 1: Arrive at 18:30 for a start at 19:00
  • Group 2: Arrive at 19:30 for a start at 20:00

The idea of arriving a bit earlier is to register yourselves and to interact with the public that are waiting their turn.

What to prepare?

A few simple sentences in very simple language about your research (think about explaining it to your grandmother). Try, as much as possible, to connect your research to things in daily life: decisions, information and applications that the public can associate with. Remember that the concepts and the organisms that we study are around us and that the public may be familiar with them, even if they don’t know this.

Here are some of our tips on how to communicate effectively

After the ten minutes are finished, people will move to another table and you will talk to a new set of people (2-4 at a time). Your job is to also point out which table they have to go to. In case they are fascinated by your topic (or you), say that you will be around during the break and after to carry on the discussion.

What to bring?

You could bring some material related to your research: e.g. field guides, photos of field site or study species, petri dishes, maps, iPads with photos. If you work on plants or flies (in a sealed vial) or any species that is safe to bring, please do so!

In the meantime, please feel free to invite your friends and family. The link for the public to sign up is here
